The days are just flying by !! Oma arrived Thursday, Friday night an old friend of Papa (from Peru) arrived with his son. The friend had called papa a couple of days before and decided to come down for the weekend, after all it was only an 8 hr drive.........................only................
I had made a huge amount of chicharones, camotes, etc to make sandwiches, since we didn't exactly know what time they would be arriving. Here's the thing when I make chicharones..............my neighbors show up by the garagedoor, kinda like strays standing there sniffing..........then they start chanting "chicharones, chicharones"
It's quite a sight !! Can't blame them really.............those sandwiches are "da bomb"
Nice fresh rolls (french) layer of sliced fried sweet potato, slices of pork and topped off with sliced onion marinated in lime juice..............Heaven people !!!
Now when I cook these huge plates, I really enjoy my rum&coke (diet coke) and since I was cooking a lot (for a long time)...............I had more than one...........and then the friend didn't arrive until 1 am..............see where this goes ?? We all had a blast, Oma, the neighbors, friends that saw eachother again after 30 years ! Lots of laughs, we went to bed at 5 am...........yes, that's right 5 am.................I haven't done one of those since...........mmmmm.......don't remember.
Max had fallen asleep early and so he was wide awake at 6.45................there is no good word in english for how I felt...in dutch it would be BRAK !!! als een balletje.
Everyone slept in til about 10 am (except for me), we had a slow start but ended up going to the beach with all the kids and had a great afternoon.
The whole weekend was basically beach, boat and sun and cooking, lots of cooking. Put peruvians together and they plan what they are going to eat next from the moment they open their eyes!!!!!
Lots of fun !
